Art News - NAIDOC Week
Our resident artist and teacher, Linda Lyons, has been working on a whole school project for NAIDOC week. The Bunjil installation includes a feather from every student and staff member and represents our ongoing commitment to walking in unity with our First Nations people.
GRAMPIANS NATIONAL PARK
GARIWERD CREATION STORY - A DREAMTIME STORY
"In the time before time, the Great Ancestor Spirit, Bunjil, began to create the world. Bunjil took the form of Werpil the Eagle to view the beautiful sandstone ranges of Gariwerd. He listened to the sound of the water, dripping after rain and thundering over waterfalls. He watched the plants and animals grow - from moss and tiny blades of grass to tall sturdy gums; from birds that flew, to animals that burrowed through the soil."
Junior Learning Community News
Our Grade 1/2 students have been busy looking after all the indoor plants here at St Mary's using "Bokashi juice", made from our leftover food scraps and water!
Bokashi juice contains nutrients from food waste and is alive with micro-organisms so it makes a terrific, free fertiliser.
- Bokashi juice is more effective if used within a day of collection.
- When applying to the soil around your plants, dilute with water at a rate of 100:1 or 1 Tablespoon to 2 litres of water.
- When spraying over leaves dilute with water at a rate of 500:1, 1 teaspoon to 5 litres of water.
- Undiluted bokashi juice can be poured directly into kitchen and bathroom drains, toilets, and septic systems. It will help prevent algae build up and control drain odour. And as a huge bonus, it contributes to cleaning up our waterways as the good bacteria compete with the bad bacteria!
